- 1). Use a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the floorboard's battery cover or open the seat, using the ignition key, to access the battery.
- 2). Turn the multimeter on and select the lowest Direct Current (DC) scale available, using the meter's dial.
- 3). Touch the multimeter's red positive probe to the battery's positive terminal.
- 4). Touch the multimeter's black negative probe to the battery's negative terminal.
- 5). Take note of the voltage indicated on the multimeter's screen, which should display a minimum of 13.0 volts DC. Remove the multimeter's probes from the battery.
- 6). Connect the battery to an automatic battery charger if the battery's voltage is less than 13.0 volts DC. Place the charger's red lead on the battery's positive terminal, and the black lead on the negative terminal. Disconnect the battery using the reverse method on connection.
- 7). Re-test the battery, using a multimeter. Replace the battery if its voltage is still below 13.0 volts DC.
