- 1). Set the parking brake and open the hood. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery terminal using a battery wrench. Move the battery cable end away from the battery to avoid accidental contact while replacing the starter.
- 2). Lift the front end of the vehicle with a floor jack and support it on two jack stands placed on both sides of the vehicle.
- 3). Climb underneath with a socket set, jack stand and the replacement starter. Disconnect the starter wiring from the rear of the old starter using the socket set.
- 4). Support the weight of the starter with the jack stand then remove the starter mounting bolts with the socket set. Pull the starter out by hand and put the replacement starter in position.
- 5). Thread the starter bolts by hand then tighten them with the socket set. Remove the jack stand from beneath the starter and climb out from under the vehicle with the old starter and your tools.
- 6). Lower the front end off the jack stands then reconnect the negative battery cable to the battery.
