DIY Tire Balancing

    • 1). Park the vehicle on a level surface and secure the wheels which will remain on the ground with wheel chocks. Position the jack under the frame of the car and use the jack to lift the vehicle to access two of the wheels.

    • 2). Use a jack stand to secure each side of the vehicle. Remove the hubcaps from the wheels and use a socket and tire iron or large ratchet to remove the lug nuts. Remove the wheels from the vehicle.

    • 3). Clean the dirt and debris from the wheel and remove any attached wheel weights. Install the wheel on the tire balancer machine. Run the balancer machine to determine where the heavy spots on the wheel are.

    • 4). Attach wheel weights to the wheel to counterbalance the heavy spots. Run the tire balancer after each addition to evaluate the improvement. When the tire balancer confirms that the tire is balanced, replace it on the vehicle and replace the lug nuts and hubcap. Repeat with the other three tires.
