- 1). Open the hood and locate the alternator belt. The belt is routed around the alternator pulley and the crankshaft pulley.
- 2). Locate the top pivot bolt that secures the alternator to the alternator bracket. Loosen the pivot bolt with the ratchet and a socket.
- 3). Locate the locking slide nut on the bottom front of the alternator. Loosen the slide nut with the ratchet and socket.
- 4). Locate the adjustment bolt at the end of the alternator. Loosen the adjustment bolt with the ratchet and socket by turning the bolt counterclockwise until the belt is loose. Then, pull the belt out of the alternator pulley and the crankshaft pulley.
- 5). Hold the old alternator belt next to the new alternator belt to make sure they match. Then, route the new belt around the alternator pulley and the crankshaft pulley.
- 6). Turn the adjustment bolt clockwise with the ratchet and socket until the belt is tight. Then, press inward on the belt with your hand to check the tension of the belt. The belt should have no more than a half inch of slack in it. If it does, continue to tighten the belt until there is only a half inch of slack.
- 7). Tighten the slide nut and the top pivot bolt back down tight with the ratchet and socket.
- 8). Crank the 1995 Toyota Corolla and let it run for about 15 seconds. Turn the engine off and recheck the tension on the belt. Close the hood.
