- 1). To fix a scratch fill the entire area in with touch up paint and sand it with a very fine sand paper of 1000 grit. To finish off the repair sand with a 2500 grit paper and polish the entire area. If touch up paint isn't working right you will have to sand down a spot around the scratch until you can no longer tell the scratched area apart from the rest of the bumper.
- 2). Paint the area and sand it down with fine 1000 grit paper. Finish with 2500 grit and a good waxing.
- 3). For heavy damage unscrew the screws holding the bumper in place and detach it. Clean the damaged area with rough sandpaper and then with a cleaner made for plastic surfaces.
- 4). Fill both sides with a flexible body filler that is made specifically for plastic bumpers.
- 5). Sand the filler down even with the outside of the bumper after the filler has hardened. Sand the damaged area with a 600 grit paper to get a finer surface that can be painted.
- 1). Fixing light damage is a simple as hammering the dent back out. Most of the time you won't even need touch up paint.
- 2). When touch up paint is necessary apply the paint and sand down the surrounding area. Apply a clearcoat over to newly painted section to protect it from future damage.
- 3). When a metal bumper has a rip or tear it has to be replaced all together.
- 1). Apply two separate coats of sealer to the damaged area.
- 2). Apply two coats of primer and then sand with your 400 grit sandpaper.
- 3). Wet-sand the damaged area before applying your base coat of paint.
- 4). Apply one or two coats of basecoat to the damaged area. Wet sand the area again after it has dried completely and you are finished.
