- 1). Pull off a piece of wool roving about 4 inches wide and several inches longer than you want the dreadlock to be.
- 2). Hold the roving under hot running water and roll it back and forth in the palms of your hands. The felting process will take 5 to 10 minutes, depending on how thick you want the dreadlock to be.
- 3). Squeeze out the excess water. Lay the dreadlock flat on a towel or hang it to dry overnight. If you want to hang it, clamp it to a clothesline or hanger with a clothespin.
- 4). Hold the crochet with the hook pointing toward your thumb.
- 5). Hold the synthetic dreadlock against one of your dreads with a 1-inch overlap.
- 6). Stab the crochet hook repeatedly and rapidly into the dreadlocks with short strokes until the synthetic dread is felted into your real hair.
