- 1). Remove the negative cable from the vehicle's battery. The negative battery cable connects the negative battery terminal lead with the frame of the vehicle for the purpose of grounding the electrical system. Loosen the bolt holding the cable's clamp around the lead post, just enough to be able to remove the clamp from the terminal. Pull the cable from the battery and lay it away from both battery terminals.
- 2). Connect the stereo wiring in the stereo dock to a wiring harness adapter. The stereo wiring in the dock connects the power supply, the speaker wiring, and the amplifier signal and turn-on lead cables to the stereo. Use a wiring harness adapter to connect the wiring to an aftermarket stereo that may have a different wiring arrangement than your vehicle. Plug the plastic wire binders into the leads of the harness.
- 3). Slide a faceplate adapter into the stereo mounting dock of the vehicle. The vehicle stereo mounting dock probably is sized and shaped to fit the factory-installed stereo exclusively. The faceplate adapter bridges the gap between the unique dock design and a universal size and shape of the aftermarket stereo. Some vehicles include an installation sleeve that slides into the stereo mounting dock to receive the aftermarket stereo.
- 4). Connect the wiring harness adapter to the stereo. Plug the harness leads into the corresponding outlets on the rear panel of the aftermarket stereo. Plug the antenna cable into the back of the stereo. The antenna cable is the single black cable that is fitted with a lead unlike the other stereo wiring. Plug the antenna directly into the stereo's FM antenna outlet.
- 5). Insert the stereo into the faceplate adapter or installation sleeve. The radio slides into the opening until it snaps into place or until the face of the radio is level with the trim of the faceplate adapter.
- 6). Replace any panelling that is required for that specific vehicle to conceal the stereo mounting dock. Consult the vehicle repair manual for exact procedures on finishing the installation process.
- 7). Replace the negative battery cable onto the negative battery terminal lead. Tighten the clamp with the wrench or pliers and close the hood of your vehicle.
