When Shopping Online Wasn’t Enough, I Decided To Create A Plus Size Pop Up Shop

As a native New Yorker who just happens to be plus size, shopping for modern and trendy clothing hasn’t always been easy. I remember back in the day, the only places to shop for plus size clothes was Ashley Stewart, Lane Bryant, and Avenue. If you wanted something specific or that was an of the moment trend, you had to get it made in your size. Nowadays, plus size women have countless options, however, most of the options are only online.

While we do have department stores, and a couple of fast fashion stores that cater to us like Forever 21 and H&M, we still have to do the bulk of our shopping online. Anyone who knows me, knows that I am not a fan of online shopping. I need to touch, feel, try on, and be one with the clothes.

While I am elated that we have a plethora of online fashion options like ASOS, Eloquii, and many others, I do wish we had that same assortment in actual brick and mortar stores. I believe that with time we will begin to see more plus size stores but until we do, I decided to create a plus size pop-up shop that features some of the most popular online brands in the plus size fashion community.  I had been toying with the idea for some time and decided to just go for it. I reached out to brands that I’ve worked with in the past and asked if they wanted an opportunity to connect with their shoppers and quite a few of them were eager to jump on board.

So, what is the Stylish Curves Plus Size Pop-Up Shop?

It’s a one day shopping event for plus size women who range in size 14-24 to shop 6 online plus size brands under one roof. The event will feature brands like Ideeli, Fashion to Figure, Madison Plus, Hey Gorgeous, Rebdolls, Feminine Funk Tees, and NY2YOU Jewelry, all selling current and past season apparel. We have also secured brands like Eloquii who will be offering giveaways with some of their sample pieces and they will be giving out discount cards. Evans is one of our major sponsors and they will be at the event allowing shoppers to preview their most recent collections.

This shopping event is away to offer plus size women in the New York City area the experience of not having to shop online for one day and have the opportunity to touch, feel, and become one with clothing from amazing plus size retailers and independent boutiques.

The Pop Up Shop will be held on November 8, 2014 from 1-6 pm at 337 Broome Street, 2nd floor. Tickets for the event are just $10 and can be purchased at http://www.bit.ly/scpopup.
