How to Fix File Permissions

    • 1). Click "Start." Type "Windows Explorer" in the search box at the bottom of the "Start" menu. Press "Enter."

    • 2). Click on the folders and drive letters in the left pane. Find the file so that it shows in the right pane.

    • 3). Right-click on the file or folder. Select "Properties."

    • 4). Click "Edit" on the "Security" tab.

    • 5). Click to highlight an item in the "Group or User Names" section.

    • 6). Click a check mark in the "Allow" or "Deny" column next to the access limitation to fix permissions for the file.

    • 7). Click "Apply" and "OK" to save the changes and exit the dialog boxes.
