- 1). Remove the cushions. On a boat, a bench seat-back cushion may be attached to the boat by snaps, hook-and-loop fasteners, hooks or clips; unsnap it, pull it, unhook it, or unclip it and remove it from the boat. Bench seat bottom cushions usually lift out, but beware of attachments like those that hold the back cushion in place.
- 2). Look for access panels under the bottom seat cushion. Some boat builders have opted to install under-seat storage with an access panel either on the front of the seating unit or beneath the cushion. Open the access panel and look for access to the screws that hold the seat base in place.
- 3). Remove the screws holding the seat base in place. The screws are usually inside the seat base, put in place before the panel on which the bottom cushion rests. Unscrew the screws by turning the screwdriver counterclockwise, removing each screw from the seat mounting brackets as you work.
- 1). Disconnect any "plug-and-play" connections for throttle, rudder and display equipment, if the seat is so equipped. Remove the screws that hold the seat's bottom frame to the pedestal and set the seat aside.
- 2). Remove the decorative cover by unscrewing the screws that hold it to the base. Slide the decorative cover up the pedestal and tape it to the seat attachment plate or frame with duct tape. Instruct an associate to use an adjustable wrench to remove the bolts that hold the pedestal base to the floor while you steady the pedestal.
- 3). Disconnect any additional plug-and-play connections in the seat pedestal. Coil any wires from the plug-and-play connection and store them in the space below the deck. Set the pedestal aside.
