How to Make Crepe-Paper Flowers

    • 1). Cut a strip of crepe paper six inches long using craft scissors. Fold the strip in half lengthwise.

    • 2). Fringe the length of the crepe paper by making one-inch cuts into the folded side of the crepe paper. Cut a vertical line every 1/4 inch along the folded side of the crepe paper.

    • 3). Cut a contrasting color of crepe paper into a six-inch strip. Fold the second strip in half lengthwise.

    • 4). Fringe the second length of crepe paper by making one-inch cuts into the open side of the crepe paper. This is the side opposite from the one you cut in the first piece. The fringe should be open on this end.

    • 5). Fold a sheet of crepe paper in half, first folding from left to right then from top to bottom to form a smaller square. Fold the paper one more time from top to bottom to form a triangle.

    • 6). Hold the folded edge of the crepe paper and cut a scalloped pattern into the edge of the crepe paper opposite the fold. Use craft scissors and cut half circles into the edge of the crepe paper. Cut through all four layers of the crepe paper.

    • 7). Trim the folded edge of the crepe paper 1/2 inch from the edge to create two identical strips of crepe paper.

    • 8). Wrap the crepe paper around a dowel rod to create the flower. Start with the lighter color of crepe paper and place one end against the dowel rod. Tape the end in place.

    • 9). Wrap the crepe paper around the dowel rod building the base of the flower with each layer of crepe paper. Tape the crepe paper in place at the end of the crepe-paper length.

    • 10

Add the remaining pieces of crepe paper to the dowel rod in the same manner. Use tape to secure each section in place on the dowel rod.

    • 11

Wrap green floral tape to the dowel rod starting just above the bottom of the crepe paper. This will hide the tape and help secure the paper. This will create the stem of the flower.
