- 1). Insert the game CD into the CD-ROM drive. If you are using the original game diskettes, insert the first one into the disk drive.
- 2). Create a new folder on your computer as close to the root of the drive as possible. Give the folder a relatively short and easy to remember name, "oldgames" for instance.
- 3). Edit the DOSBox options. If you are using Windows Vista or higher, click the "Start" button and type "DOSbox", Select "DOSBox Options" from the list. If you are using Windows XP or earlier, first navigate to the DOSBox folder located in the "Start" menu, then click "DOSBox Options."
- 4). Scroll to near the bottom of the configuration file. Find the lines for "xms," "ems" and "umb." Ensure that all three are set to equal "true." Save and close the configuration file.
- 5). Start DOSBox. In Windows Vista and higher, press "Start" and type "DOSBox," select "DOSBox" from the list. Like before, Windows XP and earlier will need to navigate to the folder on the "Start" menu first.
- 6). Mount the source media. If you are using a CD-ROM to install the game, type "mount d d:\ -cdrom" replacing "d:\" with the actual drive letter. Type "mount a a:\ -t floppy" for a floppy drive.
- 7). Create the virtual hard drive by mounting the newly created folder. To create the drive type "mount c c:\oldgames," replacing "c:\oldgames" with the name of the folder that was created earlier.
- 8). Navigate to the source media using DOS commands. Type "d:" for the CD-ROM and "a:" for the floppy. Type "install" to begin.
- 9). Follow the installation program's instructions to install the game. Use the default install paths and, if given the option, choose the maximum install. For the sound setup, select express install and allow the program to automatically detect the sound device.

Exit the installation program. If the program did not automatically start the game, navigate to the installation folder. Type "C:" to switch to the hard drive followed by "cd tiecd," replace "tiecd" with the name of the game folder which was displayed during installation. Type "TIE" to begin the game.
