How to Reinstall Applications After Reinstall 2000

    Installing From a File

    • 1). Open the Start menu and select the "My Computer" option.

    • 2). Browse through the "My Computer" folders until you locate the installer file for the program you wish to install.

    • 3). Double-click the installer file. This will bring up a new dialog box on your screen.

    • 4). Follow the instructions in this dialog box as they appear. These will guide you through the specific installation process, most of which is usually automated and will require very little input on your part. You may be asked to select an install directory at some point, at which time you should choose where on your hard drive you wish the program to be installed. You may also need to restart your computer once the installation is finished, depending on the program type.

Installing from a CD or DVD

    • 1). Open your computer's CD or DVD-ROM drive.

    • 2). Place the setup disk for the program you wish to install into the CD or DVD tray.

    • 3). Close the CD or DVD tray. If your Windows 2000 operating system is set up for auto-play, a new dialog box will pop up on your screen in a few seconds. If it does not appear, open "My Computer" and double-click the disk drive containing the setup disk, then double-click the "Setup" or "Install" file in the CD or DVD directory.

    • 4). Follow the steps outlined in the "Setup" dialog box. These will be slightly different for each program, but will usually ask you where you wish the program to be installed on your hard drive. If the program is a game, you may also be asked if you wish to install all of the game files onto your hard drive --- thereby taking up more space --- or if you wish to save space and only install a portion of the game's files onto your hard drive.

    • 5). Close the "Setup" dialog box once the installation has finished. You may need to restart your computer, depending on the type of program you just installed.
