- Windows Installer is a program that helps install and remove software onto and off of your computer. Windows keeps track of all of the programs installed on your computer in the registry, which is basically a list of where everything is and how your computer can access it. Windows Installer keeps track of where stuff goes in your computer's registry.
- The "Error 1719" message means Windows Installer itself is having trouble accessing some of its files. Those files could be misplaced, corrupted or have completely disappeared.
- The error message means that there is something wrong somewhere in Windows Installer's files. Since you need the Installer to install or remove programs from your copy of Windows, this can be a serious annoyance. It must be corrected before you try to install or remove a program.
- There is also the possibility that the error message is because you are running your computer in Safe Mode. Safe Mode is used to diagnose problems, so you cannot do some ordinary functions, such as use the installer. It should say on your screen if you are in safe mode, and you should have received a prompt when you booted up your computer, asking if you wanted to run in Safe Mode.
- There are a couple of possible solutions. The problem may be as simple as the registry being incorrect about where the installer files are, or could require reinstalling the files needed for the installer. If you reinstall, do not rename or change any other files. Also, altering the wrong registry files cause you to lose some functions on your computer.
