- 1). Open the hood of your vehicle and locate the battery at the front of the engine compartment.
- 2). Start the vehicle and turn on the headlights, four-way directional signals, air conditioner and stereo.
- 3). Test the voltage of the alternator by using the multimeter on the battery. If the voltage is below 13 volts there is a charging problem.
- 4). Turn the vehicle off.
- 5). Check that the wiring harness on the rear of the alternator is securely locked into the rear of the alternator. If it is loose, press it in until it clicks and recheck.
- 6). Inspect the wires coming from the harness for any breakage. Repair any broken wires and recheck.
- 7). Check the tightness of the power and ground wire coming from the rear of the alternator. Inspect the nuts, holding them for tightness, and check for breakage. If any problem are found, repair them and recheck.
- 8). Check the tightness of the battery terminal ends. If they are loose, tighten them and recheck.
