Drivers

• Update your video drivers. Visit the website listed in the Resources section. Note that this only works if you're using the original video card that came with your Compaq. Enter your model number. Select your operating system. Select "Drivers" and "Graphics" for the latest drivers. Each driver will include installation instructions.
  
  For other video drivers, visit the manufacturer's site of the video card you currently use for the latest drivers. Another method is to right-click "My Computer" and select "Manage." Choose "Device Manager" and expand "Display Adapters." Right-click your video adapter and press "Update Driver."
  
  

BIOS

• Update your BIOS. If your BIOS is out of date, the video card may not be communicating correctly with your operating system. If you've updated your video card, a BIOS update is essential if you're having problems. Visit the site listed in the Resources section to download the latest BIOS for your Compaq computer. Enter your model number and select your operating system. Go to the "Drivers" section and click the "BIOS" link. Download the BIOS update. Read the corresponding instructions for installation.
  
  

New Video Card

• Out-of-date video cards may not meet minimum requirements for the applications you wish to use. Slow graphics, hesitation in videos and static in video are all signs of an outdated video card. Purchase a compatible video card for your Compaq computer. Visit the website in the Resources section if you wish to purchase the card from Compaq. Local electronics stores and online retailers also sell video cards. Once purchased, download instructions from the website in the Resources section on replacing video cards. Be sure to install any drivers and software that come with the video card.
  
  

Application Specific

• Change application settings. If you only notice the problem in certain applications, the application may be the problem. Check the "Settings" section of the application for display settings. Reduce the refresh rate or change the size of the application's display. Note that some videos are best viewed at a certain size. Any other sizes will distort the image quality. Alter settings until the application is viewed clearly. Make a note of the settings you change in case you need to revert back at any point.
