- 1). Unplug the Sears dryer power cord from the electrical outlet. Remove the lint screen from the top of the dryer by pulling it out. Clean off any lint and set the screen aside. Remove the two screws at the opening of the lint screen slot using a Phillips screwdriver. Pull the dryer far enough away from the wall so that you can get behind it to work.
- 2). Insert a putty knife into the seam between the top of the dryer and the front panel. Pry up to release the locking clips on the top panel. Rotate the top up and lean it against the back of the dryer. Unplug the door-switch wiring harness by pulling the connectors apart. Remove the hex screws securing the front panel to the dryer frame using a nut driver.
- 3). Raise the front panel up slightly and pull it away from the dryer frame. Move to the back of the dryer and remove the back panel using a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the retaining screws from the lint trap housing using a nut driver. Move around to the front of the dryer and reach in under the drum to release the belt tension by pushing the idler to the side.
- 4). Remove the belt from the motor pulley. Grasp the belt at the top of the dryer drum and lift the drum up and out of the dryer frame. Remove the retaining clip from the motor using a flat-tip screwdriver. Place an adjustable wrench on the front of the motor pulley and a second one at the blower shaft behind the motor.
- 5). Turn the wrenches in opposite directions and loosen the blower wheel from the shaft. Move around to the back of the dryer and spin the blower wheel the rest of the way off the shaft. Discard the old blower wheel and spin the new one onto the shaft. Move around to the front of the machine and place the adjustable wrenches on the ends of the shafts.
- 6). Turn the wrenches in opposite directions to tighten the blower wheel onto the shaft. Install the motor retaining clip onto the back of the motor, pressing it firmly to lock it in place. Lift the dryer drum with the belt and move it over into the dryer frame. Be sure to line the back of the drum up on the roller wheels.
- 7). Loop the belt onto the idler pulley and the motor pulley under the drum. Release the idler pulley and it will automatically adjust the belt tension. Make sure the ribbed side of the belt is against the dryer drum. You can properly align the belt and make sure that it is on correctly by rotating the drum.
- 8). Move around to the back of the dryer and install the lint housing cover. Tighten the retaining screws with a nut driver. Place the back cover on the dryer frame and install the retaining screws using a Phillips screwdriver. Place the front panel on the front of the machine and line the drum up with the seal.
- 9). Install the front panel retaining screws using a nut driver. Plug the wiring harness for the door switch together. Flip the top of the dryer from the back of the machine and on top of it. Push firmly at the corners to lock the retaining clips. Install the screws at the lint screen opening using a Phillips screwdriver. Place the lint screen back in the machine.
