How to Change the Administrator Password on a Netgear Router

    • 1). Open your preferred Web browser. Type "192.168.1.1" or "Routerlogin.net" in the address bar and press "Enter." This displays a Windows Security dialog used to log in to the NETGEAR administrative interface.

    • 2). Type in your current user name and password, and click the "OK" button at the bottom to log in. The default user name for the NETGEAR interface is "admin," and the default password is "password."

    • 3). Locate the "Maintenance" section on the left side of the screen, and click the "Set Password" link. This action loads the Set Password screen.

    • 4). Type your current password in the "Old Password" field. Type a new password in the "Set Password" and "Repeat New Password" fields, and click the "Apply" button to save. You have successfully changed your NETGEAR administrator password.
