- The drain hose extends from the back of the washer and is black in color. If the hose is not draining, check for kinks in the line and straighten them out. The drain also needs to be installed properly in a drain line that reaches above the height of the washer. The drain hose needs to be at least 96 inches above the floor to drain properly.
- The drain hose is connected to the back of the machine with a wire clamp. Squeeze the clamp with your hands to loosen the hose. Pull the hose off the back of the unit and drain the water into a plastic bucket. Check the inside of the drain hose for signs of clogs. Remove any clogs with a wire hanger or other long, strong object.
- A washing machine must have the correct voltage to run properly. Whirlpool Duet washing machines require at least 120 volts to work properly. If you are using an extension cord, the voltage may not be enough for the washer to drain. Plug the washer directly into the wall. If you believe the wall socket does not have enough voltage to run, call an electrician to modify the outlet.
- Make sure the washer is not in the "SUD" routine by checking the front electronic panel. If it is in the "SUD" routine, wait until the cycle finishes. Further problems with drainage may indicate a drain pump issue. This is not a DIY repair. Call a Whirlpool technician, or check your owner's manual for warranty instructions.
