How to Open Microsoft Windows XP Power Options

    • 1). Locate the Start menu, which is always found on the very bottom left-hand side of the computer screen. Click on the "Start" menu icon to open it.

    • 2). Look for the "Control Panel" icon and click on it. The next icon you'll click will depend on the particular "View" settings of your Start menu. If you are unsure of the current view of your Start menu, simply look on the left-hand side of the screen of the "Control Panel" window and you should see an option that either says "Switch to Category View" or "Switch to Classic View." This should give you an idea of what your current setting is and will let you toggle back and forth between the two settings if desired. For computers that are using "Category View," you will click on the "Performance and Maintenance" icon. For computers that are using "Classic View," simply move on to Step 3.

    • 3). Find the "Power Options" icon on the window that appeared. This will open the Power Options menu, where you will be able to adjust any of the default power settings for your computer.
