- 1). Print out a copy of the NISPOM checklist. The checklist is designed for Windows 2000 and XP systems and contains many requirements from all corners of the operating system's configuration -- as well as further requirements about the computers the system is installed on and the people who use them.
- 2). Go through the checklist step-by-step and ensure that the Windows systems you are in charge of securing satisfy every requirement.
- 3). Satisfy requirements on the checklist that call for third-party software -- file encryptors, network security utilities -- using software specifically designed and certified for NISPOM compliance. See the Resources for a few examples of such software.
