How to Install Media Center on Vista

    • 1). Check that your internet is working. The program cannot install without internet access. Open up Windows Media Center on your computer by clicking the "Start" icon, then "All Programs" then "Windows Media Center". The first time you run it, the program will begin its set up process. When the window pops up, choose either express or custom setup. If choosing express, skip to step 4.

    • 2). Click "Next". Read the directions on the page and click "Yes" to allow Media Center to automatically download content when available or "No" if you do not want Media Center to do this. Click "Next" and allow Media Center to install itself on your computer.

    • 3). Set up your preferences after Media Center has installed. Select the media you would like associated with media center (e.g. mp3, avi, mpeg). Select folders to which downloaded content should be saved. Configure your speakers and video capturing devices (e.g. webcam, TV tuner) by syncing them with Media Center. Click "Finished".

    • 4). Restart computer for the new install and settings to take effect. Start up Windows Media Center the same way you did in step 1. This time, instead of a setup menu, the media center will open to play your media files.
