How to Refinish Alcoa Wheels

    • 1). Scrub the Alcoa wheels with a heavy-duty trisodium phosphate (TSP) cleanser, using a coarse scrub brush. Use a pressure washer to rinse each wheel, and wait two to three hours for the aluminum to dry.

    • 2). Drive your vehicle onto fabric drop cloths. Skip this step if the Alcoa wheels are not attached to the vehicle.

    • 3). Protect the tires from overspray by covering them with painter's masking paper, securing it carefully with professional painter's tape. Skip this step if the Alcoa wheels lack tires.

    • 4). Coat your Alcoa wheels with a thin coat of galvanized self-etching metal primer. Maintain an 8-inch distance between the Alcoa wheels and the spray nozzle at all times. Wait at least four hours for the metal-etching primer to dry.

    • 5). Coat the Alcoa wheels with two light coats of gloss oil-based enamel. Maintain an 8-inch distance between the Alcoa wheels and the spray nozzle at all times. Wait two hours between coats. Wait four hours before remounting the wheels or operating the vehicle.
