- Practice on paper or a surface before adding dimensional paint to glass. This will allow you to get a feel for how the paint and surface work together. Do not shake the bottle of paint; tap the paint down gently so you avoid getting air bubbles in the bottle. Allow your paint to dry 12 to 24 hours before adding a second coat on your glass.
- It is important to hold your paint bottle a certain way when painting on glass. Hold the bottle like a pencil or pen. The bottle should be held upright and the tip should lightly touch the surface. Hold the bottle at a slight angle to the surface to get thicker lines of paint. More paint will flow at an angle, resulting in thicker paint lines.
- When using dimensional paint, lift the tip away from the glass before letting go of your bottle. You will let air bubbles into the tip and bottle otherwise. Wipe your tip clean in between drawings. Use a fine metal tip to get a very fine line of paint; firmly push the metal tip onto the bottle's plastic tip.
- Dimensional paint can also be used as an adhesive, so feel free to apply dots of paint on your glass as needed. Before painting on glass, experiment to see which kind of paint is best for you. Some dimensional paints dry hard and bond to glass surfaces. Dimensional paints vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, and a variety of colors and effects are available. Some paints are metallic and others are more glossy. Cap your paint bottles after each use and clean out the tips. Use a needle to unclog any tips.
