- 1). Open "My Computer" from the desktop. Right-click "Local Disk (C:)" and select "Properties." The "Local Disk (C:) Properties" dialog box will open.
- 2). Click on the "Tools" tab.
- 3). Click the "Check Now" button under "Error Checking."
- 4). Select the "Automatically Fix File System Errors" check box and the "Scan For and Attempt Recovery of Bad Sectors" check box. Click "Start."
- 5). Click "Yes" when Windows displays the "Do you want to schedule the disk check to occur the next time you restart the computer?" message. Restart the computer.
- 1). Click the "Start" button. Select "Computer" from the right pane of the Start menu.
- 2). Right-click "Local Disk (C:)" and select "Properties." The "Local Disk (C:) Properties" dialog box will open.
- 3). Click on the "Tools" tab. Click the "Check Now" button under "Error Checking." Click "Continue" or enter your password if the "User Account Control" prompts you to do so.
- 4). Select the "Automatically Fix File System Errors" check box and the "Scan For and Attempt Recovery of Bad Sectors" check box. Click "Start."
- 5). Click "Schedule Disk Check" if Windows notifies you that it cannot check the disk while in use. Restart the computer and Scandisk will scan and attempt to repair your computer.
