How to Run Repair Scandisk

    Run Repair Scandisk on Windows XP

    • 1). Open "My Computer" from the desktop. Right-click "Local Disk (C:)" and select "Properties." The "Local Disk (C:) Properties" dialog box will open.

    • 2). Click on the "Tools" tab.

    • 3). Click the "Check Now" button under "Error Checking."

    • 4). Select the "Automatically Fix File System Errors" check box and the "Scan For and Attempt Recovery of Bad Sectors" check box. Click "Start."

    • 5). Click "Yes" when Windows displays the "Do you want to schedule the disk check to occur the next time you restart the computer?" message. Restart the computer.

    Run Repair Scandisk on Windows Vista or Windows 7

    • 1). Click the "Start" button. Select "Computer" from the right pane of the Start menu.

    • 2). Right-click "Local Disk (C:)" and select "Properties." The "Local Disk (C:) Properties" dialog box will open.

    • 3). Click on the "Tools" tab. Click the "Check Now" button under "Error Checking." Click "Continue" or enter your password if the "User Account Control" prompts you to do so.

    • 4). Select the "Automatically Fix File System Errors" check box and the "Scan For and Attempt Recovery of Bad Sectors" check box. Click "Start."

    • 5). Click "Schedule Disk Check" if Windows notifies you that it cannot check the disk while in use. Restart the computer and Scandisk will scan and attempt to repair your computer.
