- 1). Boot your Vista installation in Safe Mode. This mode is Vista without any nonessential drivers or software. You can access this by turning on your PC and pressing F8 before the Windows Vista logo appears and selecting the "Safe Mode" option.
- 2). Use the recovery partition on the computer to repair your OS. Many computer manufacturers forgo shipping a recovery disc with the PC and instead include all of the information needed on a section of the hard drive that's isolated from the rest of the computer. You can initiate this from the menu that appears during the boot sequence.
- 3). Insert the Windows Vista installation disc that you used and boot up your computer. This will give you access to a menu that can allow you to either repair your installation or reinstall the operating system.
- 4). Use a Live CD of a Linux distribution by inserting it into the CD drive as the computer boots. The Live CD boots into a working operating system, which can allow you to get files backed up or deleted.
