- 1). Reboot the iPod Touch by holding down the "Sleep" button, located in the top right corner of the device. If your model does not have this button, it is not an iPod Touch. When the iPod restarts, you will immediately see the white Apple logo on a dark screen. If you see anything else, what you have is a fake.
- 2). Inspect the front and back of the device for telltale signs of a counterfeit product. An authentic device does not have the word "iPod" printed on the front; instead, it appears on the back, under the Apple logo, and the text is usually condensed at the bottom. If you see random text or logos elsewhere on the back of the iPod, it's probably a fake.
- 3). Beware of "extra" features that don't come with the iPod Touch, such as an e-book reader app or email. Apple requires you to purchase accessories to use Bluetooth for reading e-books and email.
