How to Reboot My PC Back to Windows

    • 1). Reboot using the usual method. No matter which version of Windows you're using, click the "Start" button (or the button with the Windows icon), then click the button to shut down your computer. Select the option to reboot.

    • 2). Push and hold Control (CTRL), Alt and Delete (Del) until the Task Manager appears. Select Shut Down from the menu and attempt to reboot from here.

    • 3). Reopen the Task Manager. Click the "Processes" tab. Select each of the open tasks in the window and attempt to end them by clicking "End Task." Once completed, start again at Step 1.

    • 4). Attempt a hard reboot (desktop only). Your desktop should have a reboot button on the front; this will look like the power button, but is usually smaller. Press and hold this button until your screen changes.

    • 5). Attempt a hard shutdown (laptop only). Press and hold the power button on your laptop for five to 10 seconds until the computer shuts off on its own. Then power the system back up.

    • 6). Cut the power. When all else fails, cut the power to the computer. On a desktop, pull the plug from the power outlet. On a laptop, unplug the power source and remove the battery, which is usually on the back or below your computer. Wait about two minutes for your computer to cool before restarting.
