- First and foremost, the iPod touch is a music player. Use iTunes to add music to the device and plug the included ear phones in to listen to music on-the-go. You can also use the iTunes Store application on the iPod to buy music and download it directly to the device, assuming you are connected to a Wi-Fi network.
You can also use the iPod touch's 3.5-inch LCD screen to view videos. ITunes offers a large selection of TV shows and movies, or you can transfer your own video to the device. There is also a pre-installed YouTube application. - Use the built-in camera on the back of the iPod touch to take photos and record video in 720p HD. Apple offers a separate iMovie application for editing videos. The device also contains a camera on the front for video chat through Apple FaceTime, which lets you video chat with anyone on another FaceTime device through Wi-Fi. FaceTime also works with the rear camera on the iPod touch.
- The iPod touch has a Mail application for checking your email and the Safari Web browser for surfing the Internet. You can also use the included Maps application to browse Google Maps. You must connect to a Wi-Fi network to use these features.
- The iPod touch is as much of a gaming device as it is a music and video player. Several thousand games across all genres are available for the device, including racing games, remakes of popular titles, flight simulators, puzzle games and first-person shooters. The iPod touch has an integrated three-axis gyroscope, so you can turn the device up, down and to the side to control games.
- The capabilities of the iPod touch don't end here. You can visit the App Store in iTunes and download tens of thousands of third-party applications to extend the device's functionality. Apple also offers applications such as the Numbers spreadsheet program and Pages word processor. You can also download iBooks to read Apple eBooks on the iPod touch.
