How to Reinstall Automatic Updates in Windows XP

    • 1). Insert the XP CD into the computer.

    • 2). Click the "Start" button and select "Run." Type "cmd" and press "Enter."

    • 3). Type "rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 %systemroot%\inf\au.inf" if you are using Service Pack 2 and beyond. Type "rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection AutoUpdate 132 %systemroot%\inf\au.inf" if you are using an earlier revision.

    • 4). Press "Enter." Click "Browse" and open the "i386" directory on your "C" drive to complete the process. Restart your computer.
