- 1). Back up your computer because disabling Chkdsk involves making changes to the registry. To back up your computer, click the Windows "Start" button and select "Programs." Scroll up and select "Accessories." Click "System Tools" and click "System Restore" to launch the backup utility.
- 2). Click "Create a new restore" on the backup utility and click "Next." Type a name for the restore point and click "Create" to back up your computer using a restore point you can revert your computer to if you make a mistake.
- 3). Click the Windows "Start" button and click "Run" to launch the command box. Type "regedit" (without quotes) and press "Enter" to launch the registry.
- 4). Click the "+" symbol next to the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" subtree on the left panel to expand it. Expand "SYSTEM" and expand "CurrentControlSet." Expand "Control" and expand "Session Manager."
- 5). Double click "BootExecute" in the right pane. In the value box, type "autocheck autochk *" (without the quotes, but with the asterisk) and press "OK" to save the changes. Click "File" and click "Exit" to close the registry.
