You may not pay your window screens much attention until they fail to keep insects out of your house or they begin to look worn and tattered. Then you must consider what type of window screen is best for you. There are numerous types to fit the look of your windows and to keep insects out. - Fiberglass window screens come in fine, standard and heavy-duty grades. Each grade has a different purpose. Fine fiberglass window screen is best to use if you need to keep out lots of small insects. This type of window screen is often used in marshy and coastal areas where gnats and sand flies are prevalent. Standard fiberglass screen is the most common, least expensive screen type. It is generally used for windows in new houses and is long-lasting if it is not abused. Heavy-duty fiberglass screening is typically used in larger windows where the screen needs to be strong. Before choosing fiberglass screens, take note that they are easily scratched and broken, and become hard and brittle over time.
- Copper-bronze screening is 90 percent copper and 10 percent zinc, making it very strong and durable. This type is more expensive than aluminum, which is also strong and durable. Aluminum screening is also rust-resistant, non-sagging and has a protective coating that withstands corrosion.
- Pet screen is an ideal type of window screen if your pets scratch at the screens or your children batter it. It is made of heavy-duty, vinyl-coated polyester, which is heavier and stronger than regular screening. It also allows some stretching without sagging.
