- 1). Access the asphalt roof, using an extension ladder.
- 2). Wash the asphalt, using a pressure washer equipped with a low-pressure tip. Wait a full day for the roof to dry.
- 3). Pour 2 gallons of light-gray acrylic latex primer into a 5-gallon bucket. Affix the nap cover to the roller frame and screw on the extension pole.
- 4). Scale the ladder with the plastic bucket in hand. Set the bucket on the roof and descend the ladder to collect the roller and a 3- to 4-inch latex paintbrush.
- 5). Apply gray acrylic latex primer to the asphalt roof, using the roller. Begin at the far end of the roof. Roll vertically, working backward toward the ladder. Wait three hours for the asphalt to dry.
- 6). Touch up any skipped areas that were inaccessible to the roller, using the primer and a paintbrush. Wait three hours for the primer to dry.
- 7). Clean each painting tool with water.
- 8). Apply white exterior acrylic latex paint to the roof in the same manner as you did the primer.
