How to Adjust Brake Pedal Height in a Hyundai Santa Fe

    • 1). Find the brake yoke on your Hyundai Santa Fe. It will be under the dash, located in the same area as the brake pedal. Look just above the brake pedal and over to the side.

    • 2). Follow the pedal upward to the point it attaches to a rod, called the push rod. Mark the pushrod with a marking pencil or some nail polish. A dot of something will help to ensure you keep the rod facing the right direction. Keep an eye on this during the job and check again when you are through.

    • 3). Locate the locking nuts for the push rod and loosen them with a 17-mm wrench. Don't let the push rod turn. If it does, turn it back so that the mark is in front of you. You may need to use one wrench to hold the bracket and another to break loose the nut.

    • 4). Use pliers to grasp the push rod until you have loosened the lock nuts. Turn the pushrod, using a 10-mm wrench in the direction necessary in order to lengthen or shorten the Hyundai Santa Fe pedal height.

    • 5). Leave a minimum of 3 mm (less than ? inch) distance from the brake stop to the brake pedal. The pedal will automatically stop at the rubber grommet positioned on its path toward the bracket. This distance allows the brake pedal to pull the push rod back all the way. Once this happens, the brake servo will be able to operate correctly.

    • 6). Retighten the lock nut. Adjust the brake light switch, if necessary.
