- 1). Place drop cloths on the floor and furniture to protect them from paint dripping. Tape off the wall around the ceiling with blue painter's tape to prevent paint from getting onto the wall.
- 2). Apply one coat of latex primer to the ceiling with a paint roller. Allow 24 hours' drying time, then apply one coat of semi-gloss latex paint to the ceiling with a paint roller. Again, allow 24 hours drying time.
- 3). Place the pickup tube for the sprayer into the paint can of latex paint. Use the same shade of latex paint that you used for your solid coat of paint in step 2. Do not use a different shade of paint. The idea is to add texture, not color contrast.
- 4). Set the pressure on the paint sprayer as low as you can. Test the sprayer on a piece of drop cloth. When you spray with the sprayer it should spit out of the sprayer, rather than coming out in an even spray.
- 5). Spray the ceiling with the sprayer until you are happy with the level of splatter on the ceiling. The more you add, the more texture the ceiling will have. The result is purely up to your creativity. Use the same spraying technique you would if you were painting the ceiling in a normal manner. Hold the sprayer nozzle approximately 8 inches away from and perpendicular to the ceiling. Overlap your rows by 50 percent.
