How to Paint an Elephant

    Drawing

    • 1). Sketch a large oval, for the elephant body, on the center of your page. Add an overlapping circle, for the head, toward the top of the body on the left-hand side.

    • 2). Draw the legs by making four curved rectangles on the body of the elephant. Make sure the rectangles overlap the body. Draw half circles on the elephant's feet to represent toe.

    • 3). Frame the head with ears by creating two rounded triangles. Draw the trunk by connecting two large curved lines. Add two holes at the end of the trunk. Make tusks on each side of the trunk. Add a tail to the body by making two small curved lines and connecting them.

    • 4). Erase any unnecessary, overlapping lines.

    Painting

    • 1). Mix black and white paint to make a grey color. Add a touch of brown paint and mix thoroughly. Dip the paintbrush in water to moisten. Blot off any excess water and dip the brush into the grey paint. Fill in the elephant's head using small quick strokes. Repeat the process for the rest of the body.

    • 2). Add more black paint to the grey paint mixture to create a darker color. Mix thoroughly. Use this paint to outline the elephant's body, ears, legs and trunk. Paint additional details such as eyes, eyebrows, eyelashes, wrinkles and a mouth. Add hair to the end of the elephant's tail.

    • 3). Paint the elephant's tusks with a cream-colored paint.

    • 4). Consider adding a nature scene behind the elephant as a background. Paint trees, grass and water.

    • 5). Allow the paint to dry completely. Display the elephant painting on the wall in a frame.
