How to Replace the Throttle Body in a Pontiac Grand Am

    • 1). Take out the air cleaner resonator. Disconnect the harness connectors for both the idle air control and the throttle position sensor. Label and then remove all the vacuum hoses from the throttle body.

    • 2). Remove the bracket and the cables for the accelerator control from the throttle body. Loosen and remove the throttle body fasteners.

    • 3). Lift the throttle body off the manifold. Remove the throttle body gasket and inspect it carefully. Replace the gasket as needed or re-install the old gasket to the throttle body after cleaning all the mating surfaces thoroughly.

    • 4). Set the throttle body on the manifold and finger-tighten the fasteners. Torque the bolts to 89 inch pounds.

    • 5). Install the cables and bracket for the accelerator cable, then reconnect the vacuum hoses. Reconnect the harness connectors for the throttle position sensor and the and idle air control valve, then replace the air cleaner resonator.

    • 6). Depress the accelerator pedal to test its movement and to assure that there is no binding. Press the pedal to the floor one time then release it. Make the necessary adjustments.
