The Pros and Cons of Using Cisco Transceivers

Networks can be very complicated things, though there is a strong chance that you've figured this out already assuming you have deployed a network and are attempting to utilise it for your business purposes. One thing you are going to notice is that with a large network you are going to need some type of transceiver, though this is not to stay by any means that they are not needed in standard size networks. As a matter of fact, most of the time you will find transceivers located directly on the network card itself. What if that isn't enough?

In large networks the signal tends to degrade after it is sent over a long distance, for instance a 500 foot cable will certainly not carry the signal as well as a 100 foot cable and so on. This problem was solved by introducing repeaters into the network and with this introduction it has rather easily been discovered that network signals can be sent over any distance so long as there is a good repeater.

Does this help? Absolutely, although there is another issue with signal syncing. One would think that sending and boosting the signal would be enough but what if the signal is de-synced when it reaches the other end? This would of course completely defeat the purpose of having the repeater in the first place as you can imagine and with that being the case you will most certainly want to look for a good solution. The solution comes in the form of a transceiver.

Modular transceivers serve a very important purpose in a large scale network, far outside the grasp of the basic home user. When you are choosing a set of transceivers for your network you will need to determine which brand you wish to buy. There are many of course but you have probably been informed as to the durability and usability of Cisco products.

One should note that Cisco products are indeed very durable and they will interface well with other Cisco products. In addition to that, Cisco's product support has always been superb, which means you can rely on replacements or immediate technical support in the event anything should happen to your established network.

There are two major problems with using Cisco transceivers, one of which is the price. Then again one could argue that you get what you pay for, especially in terms of network related items. The other disadvantage is the fact that you will need a network fully compliant with the Cisco hardware all the way down to transceivers on the network cards themselves. If your computers are under warranty it may be difficult to replace the network cards with compliant hardware which indicates you would need to have custom machines built. Whether or not this is possible in your case will of course remain to be seen.

These are just a few rather important things to keep in mind in terms of your network, so remember them and of course try to stick with what works.
