How to Replace a Windows Taskbar

    Moving the Taskbar

    • 1). Right-click the taskbar and deselect the option to "Lock the taskbar."

    • 2). Click and drag the taskbar to any side of the screen and let go of the mouse button to drop it there.

    • 3). Right-click the taskbar and select "Lock the taskbar" again to lock it into place.

    • 4). Enable or disable the taskbar's auto-hide feature by right-clicking the taskbar, selecting "Properties" and checking the "Auto-hide the taskbar" option so the taskbar disappears when your cursor isn't hovering over it. Remove the check for this option to disable the feature. Clicking "Apply" and "OK" will save the changes and close the window.

    Alternatives to Windows Taskbar

    • 1). Go online and visit the Stardock: ObjectDock or RocketDock: Download RocketDock website (see Resources). Both programs are alternatives to the Windows taskbar and work similar to the dock found in Mac operating systems. Both programs require Windows XP or later.

    • 2). Click the "Free Download" button on the ObjectDock page to download ObjectDock. Click the "Download RocketDock!" button on the RocketDock page to download RocketDock.

    • 3). Double-click the install file after it saves to your computer and follow the on-screen instructions to set up ObjectDock or RocketDock.
