- 1). Click the Windows "Start" button on your Windows Server. Click "Administrative Tools" in the menu options and then click "Routing and Remote Access." The Windows VPN configuration utility opens.
- 2). Right-click the server name in the open utility window. Select "Configure and Enable Routing and Remote Access" from the pop-up menu; the VPN configuration wizard starts. Click "Next" on the first window, which is a welcome message.
- 3). Choose "VPN" in the "Connection Type" window; click "Next." Choose "Automatically" in the following window, which asks you how you want the server to assign IP addresses. In the text boxes shown, type a beginning and end block of IP addresses; these addresses are determined by the type of network you have. For example, if internal network computers use "192.168.1.2" to "192.168.1.30," you can enter "192.168.1.31" as the starting IP address and "192.168.1.40" as the ending address; this allows ten VPN clients to access your network.
- 4). Click "Next." In the final option window, choose "No, use Routing and Remote Access to authenticate connection requests" and click "Next." Review your settings in the last window and click "Finish." The Windows Server is set up to assign IP addresses for your VPN users.
